Stephen Lyons, Lawyer

Mr. Lyons first joined Stevenson Luchies and Legh as an articled student and continued with the firm as a lawyer. Stephen has a diverse general practice, and has represented clients at all three levels of court in British Columbia. His practice centres around the following areas of law:

  • Wills, Estates, and Succession Planning (including Estate Litigation and Incapacity)
  • Wealth Management (including Taxation Planning and Trusts)
  • Not-for-Profit and Charities Law
  • Real Estate and Strata Property Law
  • Corporate and Business Law (including Incorporations, Buy/Sell Agreements, Contracts, and Civil Litigation)
  • Software and Technology Law (including Intellectual Property, Gaming Law, and Employment Law)
  • Appeals
  • Commercial and Residential Tenancy

Before entering law, Mr. Lyons worked in software development. Stephen was a senior programmer, analyst, and software architect for leading video game and Internet-based gaming companies, including Relic Entertainment, Alea Software, Radical Entertainment, and Criterion Studios. He is credited with senior technical roles on a number of “AAA” video games, including the Dawn of War II franchise (Dawn of War II, Dawn of War II: Chaos Rising, and Dawn of War II: Retribution), Company of Heroes: Tales of Valor, and Space Marine.

Stephen holds the degree of Juris Doctor from the University of Victoria. From the University of British Columbia, he obtained a Master of Arts in Classical Archaeology and a Bachelor of Arts with Honours (First Class) in Classical Studies and a Minor in History. Stephen’s archaeological adventures have included excavations of Greek, Roman, and Byzantine sites, and travel throughout Italy, Greece, Turkey, Tunisia, Britain, China, and Korea.

Mr. Lyons is involved in the local community, and is currently active in the Craigdarroch Castle Historical Museum Society as Director, Treasurer and is on the board of the Victoria Heritage Foundation.

In his free time, Stephen enjoys kayaking, sailing, investment analysis, and playing strategy games. He has family in Victoria, including an energetic border collie named Mika. The two can be found at the beach on weekends.
